Frequent Types of Pain & Medications Often Used

Some of the most frequent types of pain experienced by the terminally ill and medications often used for their treatment are listed below:
Pain Medications
Soft tissue pain Opiates in low to high doses
Smooth muscle spasm Tincture of Belladonna, Atropine, Scopolamine Patch, B & O Suppositories (belladonna and opium)
Neuropathic/nerve pain amitriptyline, Prolixin, tegretol 
(not helped by morphine)
Raised intra-cranial pressure Ibuprofen, Dexamethasone, Elavil, Prolixin 
(made worse by morphine)
Bone pain corticosteriods & non-steriodal anti-inflammatory agents such as, Ibuprofen, Prednisone 

Other treatments - Radiation
(morphine has little effect)

Striated muscle spasm pain Diszapam, Flexeril

(not helped by morphine)

Compression Pain Dexamethazone, Morphine
